Introduction:

Ranvireshwar is considered as the biggest Shiv Temple of Northern India. The temple has been named after the Dogra king, Maharaja Ranvir Singh, who built it.

The temple is situated in Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir.

Jammu is known as the city of temples where a large number of temples and Sikh gurudwaras can be seen.

The Ranvireshwar Temple houses an 8-feet tall, huge, black-stone Shivling which is surrounded by 12 crystal Shivlings of various sizes, symbolic of the 12 Jyotirlings of Shiv.

The passage of the temple has 1.25 lakh small Shivlings which have been brought from the holy Narmada River.

Every pilgrim visiting Jammu Kashmir comes here also besides going to the Raghunath Temple. Jammu is the base centre for visitors to Vaishnodevi and Kashmir, and they cannot resist the temptation of performing a puja in the Ranvireshwar Temple.
